‘Invasión’ and ‘La bandera’ premiere at Málaga Film Festival

The film adaptations of Invasión and Al damunt dels nostres cants will premiere on consecutive days in the Official Out of Competition Section of the 27th Málaga Festival. Both films are productions by Álamo Producciones, Secuoya Studios and A Contracorriente Films.

La bandera, based on the winning text of the 43rd Ciutat d’Alcoi Theatre Prize, will open the programme on 7 March. Directed by Martín Cuervo, the story unfolds during a family gathering in which Tomás (Imanol Arias) calls his two sons, Jesús (Miquel Fernández) and Antonio (Aitor Luna), to tell them important news. The patriarch, accompanied by his biographer Lina (Ana Fernández), takes his time before saying what he really wants, but his descendants begin to lose their nerve. At one point, one of the sons discovers a huge flag in the garden, triggering a dispute that seriously endangers the family’s apparent harmony. The film attempts to portray today’s society, where opinions seem to have no nuance, with completely opposed positions and no middle ground.

The following day it will be the turn of Invasión, based on the play premiered in 2012 by La Joven Compañía in Madrid. The film is directed by David Martín-Porras, who again works from a screenplay by Guillem Clua after adapting La piel en llamas and Smiley. The cast includes María Adánez, Fran Berenguer, Sofía Oria, Claudia Salas, Álvaro Rico, Nourdin Batán, Andrés Gertrúdix, Marga Arnau and Carlos Fuentes. They play characters caught in an extraterrestrial invasion: two prisoners from opposing sides locked in a cell, three Spanish soldiers taking refuge in a factory, and a married couple of scientists alone with a captured extraterrestrial must learn to trust the enemy in order to survive the longest night of their lives. In the words of its author, Invasión is a hymn to love as the only way out of every conflict, an invitation to look at others as equals and trust them by showing our weaknesses.
