World premiere of ‘Al damunt dels nostres cants’ in Florence
On 26 September, Teatro della Limonaia in Florence (Italy) will host the first production of the play Al damunt dels nostres cants, marking the world premiere of the piece, which has not yet premiered in Spain. Under the title La bandera, the play has been translated into Italian by Pino Tierno and is part of the programme of the 38th Intercity Festival, which this year has Barcelona as its guest city. In addition to Clua’s play, texts by Sergi Belbel, Josep Maria Benet i Jornet, Ramon Madaula and Victoria Szpunberg will also be presented.
Al damunt dels nostres cants won the Premi de Teatre Ciutat d’Alcoi in 2017, but was never premiered. Despite this, in 2024 it became a film, also titled La bandera, directed by Martín Cuervo and starring Imanol Arias, among others.
The Intercity Festival is a festival of theatre and new theatrical dramaturgy that each year connects the city of Florence with a city in the world, seeking to offer the Italian public an idea of what can be seen there. In practice, it becomes a showcase for the theatre of a foreign country or city in Italy. With a major artistic impact, it is considered one of the most important festivals in Europe. The festival programme (lasting 3 to 4 weeks and featuring more than 25 premieres) includes both original productions and readings making their national debut, as well as guest performances in the original language with subtitles.
