‘Mort d’un comediant’ to run at Teatre Romea
Guillem Clua’s new play has now set its opening date. It is called Mort d’un comediant and will run at Teatre Romea in Barcelona from 21 March 2025. Before that, the piece will be seen for the first time at Festival Temporada Alta in Girona, followed by a short tour before arriving at the legendary theatre on Carrer Hospital. As on previous occasions (La golondrina, L’oroneta, Justícia), Josep Maria Mestres will direct.
In Mort d’un comediant, Adri (Francesc Marginet), a young elderly-care worker, starts working at the home of Llorenç Capdevila (Jordi Bosch), one of Catalonia’s most respected and beloved actors. On his first day, his niece Miranda (Mercè Pons) warns him that, to keep the job, he will have to follow a whole host of rules that go beyond his usual duties: in the final stretch of his life, Llorenç seems to have lost his mind and sometimes decides to behave like the characters he has played throughout his long career, forcing Adri to play along. Over the course of their time living together, Llorenç embodies all kinds of mythical characters as he establishes an increasingly close relationship with his caregiver, who will eventually discover the real reason why the old actor has found refuge in theatrical fiction to escape a reality he is incapable of confronting.
Tickets for the performance have already sold out, but tickets for the Romea run can now be purchased on its website.
