‘North To Paradise’ hits cinemas
Viaje al país de los blancos (North To Paradise), directed by Dani Sancho, was presented in the Official Competition, out of competition, at the 29th Málaga Film Festival before its release in Spanish cinemas on 26 June 2026. Distributed by A Contracorriente Films, the film is based on Ousman Umar’s true story and his book of the same name.
The film follows Umar’s journey from Ghana to Barcelona and his meeting with Montse, who welcomes him and offers him support and the chance to build a future. Ousman Umar plays his own story as an adult, alongside Benjamin Kakraba, Victor Sey and Emma Vilarasau, among other performers.
Guillem Clua wrote the screenplay for this film adaptation. His work brings Umar’s story to the screen as a story about migration, the search for opportunities and personal transformation.
