New international productions of ‘Smiley’
2023 has seen three new international productions of the first Smiley in Buenos Aires, Mexico City and Miami. The first to premiere was the Mexican production, which opened on 2 March at La Teatrería and was still running when this news was published in September. Directed by Joserra Zúñiga, it alternates the leading roles among four actors: Jesús Zavala, Jerry Velázquez, Martín Barba and Sergio Velasco.
The Argentine production arrived at Teatro Premier on 25 August. Directed by Diego Rinaldi, it stars Germán Tripel and Facu Gambandé. Rodrigo Jara joins the cast as a third party.
Finally, Miami is the third city where Smiley will arrive from 29 September. Leo Lugon and Saul Mauricio reprise Álex and Bruno in a new production directed by Fernando Azpurua at the Sandrell Rivers Theater.
